Palo Alto Gas - $3.31 - June 29

Everytime I’m in Paly, I seem to end up near this gas station. It may be the Kevin Bacon of filler-ups. Taking a shot of their sandwich board has become a minor amusement.

One thing I’ve noticed is these guys don’t sleep when it comes to tweaking their prices. Moreover, it’s always been one of the more expensive stations around, no doubt because of the tony neighborhood. Whenever I see a sharp rise here I know the price hammer’s about to fall on everyone. It’s an ‘indicator’ and this station always seems ahead of the curve on price jumps and behind it on price drops. They’re funny that way.

Last year these guys flirted with $5/gallon, getting as close as $4.95. This year, they were as low as $2.47 in February. Look at them now.

I think it’s going to be an expensive summer for drivers… and all of us. <sigh />
